Photography Inspiration: Jellyfish

Jellyfish (also known as jellies or sea jellies or medusozoa) are free-swimming members of the phylum Cnidaria. Jellyfish are found in every ocean, from the surface to the deep sea. Jellyfish are composed of more than 90% water; most of their umbrella mass is a gelatinous material — the jelly — called mesoglea which is surrounded by two layers of epithelial cells which form the umbrella (top surface) and subumbrella (bottom surface) of the bell, or body (wikipedia).

I know many of you must hate jellyfish because of its toxicity in some species, but it is undeniable the beauty of these animals. A mix of abstract shapes and symmetrical forms, there it is a living being that possesses one of the most interesting life cycles in the animal kingdom.

I became very interested in the subject so I decided to look for good pictures that show the colors and textures of jellyfish.

Stunning Pictures of Jellyfishes

We've been talking about the wonders of nature lately. We had a great sunset photography post this week, and today some little weid, yet beautiful creatures caught my attention: jellyfishes! These animals are absolutely stunning, and some of them are as beautiful as they might be mortal.

So, I thought it would be really awesome to see some images of these creatures! I found some great photographers over flickr, which I really recommend you to visit! These guys got some really cool pictures in their photostreams! Anyways, I hope you enjoy these. Cheers! ;)
