Colorful Lights in Bokeh Pictures

It's been a long time since we had our last post on bokeh. There are some pretty good pictures out there of this effect, and some feature blurred, colorful lights, which are just beautiful.

If you don't know what bokeh is, it is the effect that you see in pictures when there's something on focus and another out of focus, blurred. When you get light out of focus, it produces this blurry effect which is amazing. Here's my selection of some pretty cool pictures. Awesome Light Photography by Alan Jaras

Back when I was a kid, I was attracted to everything creative & colorful. My neighbor, who wrote books about experiments for kids, showed me a lot of colorful playings. My favorite experiment was closing my eyes and pressing my fingers against them. Most of the times you see a firework of colors in space depending on the light around you, and the amount of pressure you press against the eyes. Alan Jaras Photographs look exactly like those images I use to see on my head.

The interplay and the interaction of light on materials and surfaces has long been a fascination for me. As a research scientist and microscopist I used many optical and lighting techniques to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of materials. I am now exploring the world of caustics - those magical patterns that are formed when a beam of light travels through transparent textured materials.

Using traditional photographic techniques and pieces of complex shaped glass and plastics I project these patterns directly on to colour film. The resulting images and photographs that you see are purely analogue and are not computer generated, but a true representation of the patterns formed by the light beam after its complex journey through the refractive objects I create.

I have always sought to find a bridge between art and science; with these "Refractographs" I now feel I have achieved my goal.

Beautiful Dark Light Photos by Alcove

One thing that attracts me the most in a photo is the light of it. I really like the atmosphere that different lights can bring to a photo making a normal street become very interesting. That's what Alcove's photos are all about: light. Particularly, dark light. Obviously, those angles are fantastic too. His photos look very surreal, including his not so dark ones. I really enjoy it, I hope you like it too.

Bending Light

Wow... it's like watching a SciFi movie about cosmic rays, sunlight or maybe gamma radiation. I'm talking about the experiments of Alan Jaras, a "light photographer", on flickr.

Down his photostream there are many many experiments and attempts (and why not to say sucess) on bending light, an strange phenomeon formed when light passes through various pieces of glass. Here, I'm gonna post only a few, but you really should visit his flickr and check everything out. You'll get amazed. Cheers! ;)

Awesome Light Graffiti Pictures

Long Exposure pictures can get pretty awesome if you have the right ideas. One of the coolest ideas is to make sweet light graffiti with this camera option.

During all summer I've played with it, and made some nice pictures (some other day I'll post it), but not as nice as some of these pictures right here! 98% of it was found on Flickr! Hope you like it.
