One of the best ways to see how talented an artist is, is actually by checking the characters he/she develops. Of course some might come from commissions, but still, you get a pretty good notion of how good someone is.

That's the case of Arnold Tsang's characters, which are very awesome. Many warriors and urban gangsters populate his imagination, and the way the does them is pretty awesome, mainly because he sure knows how to change his style at will. Experimentation is really important... whether you're coming up with some pretty intense art or with cheerful designs. You must be open for any possibility, and this guy, Teodoru Badiu has done that.

He's came up with some cool 3d characters, which I find pretty awesome and I'm sure digging his style, which reminds me a lot of those colorful Fanta commercials. Anyways, for much more of his awesome work you may visit his portfolio. I hope you all enjoy these. Cheers! ;)

Comic Character Inspiration: Hellboy

Hellboy is a comic book character created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. As I'm a big fan of the Hellboy comics, I decided to select several drawings and paintings done by artists and fans of the character around the world and post them here on Abduzeedo.

Hellboy is a creature summoned, in the final months of World War II by Grigori Rasputin on Tarmagant Island, off the coast of Scotland, having been commissioned by the Nazis to change the tide of war ("Project Ragna Rok"). He appears in a fireball in a ruined church in East Bromwich, England, on December 23, 1944. Proving not to be a devil, in the traditional sense, but a devil-like creature with red skin, horns, a tail, and a disproportionately large right hand made of red stone, he is dubbed "Hellboy" by Professor Trevor "Broom" Bruttenholm - Wikipedia

A demon whose true name is Anung Un Rama (the Beast of the Apocalypse), Hellboy was brought to Earth as an infant by Nazi occultists. He was discovered by the Allied Forces; amongst them, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who formed the United States Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD). In time Hellboy grew to be a large, red-skinned demon with a tail, horns (which he files off, leaving behind the signature circular stumps on his forehead, to make his appearance more "normal"), and an oversized right hand made of stone. He has been described as smelling of dry-roasted peanuts. Although a bit gruff, he shows none of the malevolence thought to be intrinsic to demons, and works with other strange creatures in the BPRD. Remarkable 3D Characters

One of my new years resolution is to practice and learn more 3D. I've been playing with Cinema 4D for quite some time now but never went into much depth. I know it's going to take some time until I reach the level of the images I'm about show you here, but I'm going to do my best to make the learning process as fun as possible.

So in this post I have selected some remarkable 3D rendered characters from the CGSociety, one of the best sites out there on the subject. There are images from guys from all parts of the globe. Click on the images to go to their pages at CGSociety.org for more details about the work.

Mark Verhaagen is an illustrator from Bovensmilde, Holland with a beautfil portfolio full of character designs and other colorful illustration. You have probably seen his work before, he has designed covers for popular design magazines such as Computer Arts and Computer Arts Projects.

His clients include MTV networks, Vodafone UK, Amsterdam Historical Museum, TBWA group, Domestic, Nickelodeon, Digital Creative Arts magazine, Fontmonster, Laidback Luke, Sprout magazine, Roger magazine (Virgin), Colombo Amsterdam, Vrij Nederland, Dzone magazin and others.

When Mark is not working projects he likes to stay with his friends and family, playing with his Holga camera and practicing Moonwalk in front of the mirror.

Mark Verhaagen has been creating tree houses and sand castles, origami flower bouquets, food sculptures, Lego space ships, and electronic blip-bleep music on his Atari computer… which has been replaced by a shiny Apple machine some time ago. After high school Mark decided to focus on drawing, so he went to art school to learn the proper job of illustration. Since his graduation in 2003, Mark has been freelancing in the field of illustration and animation. When not working on commissions, he likes to keep in shape by making personal work.

Computer Arts Projects magazine (issue 123)

Another fun project for the guys at Domestic! This time they approached me to illustrate a strip of wallpaper (50x250 cm) for their One Strip project. Now you can add a bit of nature to your bright and shiny design loft (see picture).

For its 10th anniversary, Publish asked 20 designers to collaborate and make a cover. The theme for this issue was Looking into the future. This fun project was art directed by Zeptonn. Other contributors include Carrie & Stephan, Ditte Winkelman, Eva Lindeman, Farb, Leendert Masselink, Lennard Schuurmans, LouLou & Tummie, MAKI, Nick Deakin, Sauerkids, Skaffa, Tan Nuyen and me!

Today I dreamed that I woke up and my mother was an extraterrestrial, my brother was a horse and I touched myself and I was hairy. I went to see the doctor and he told me that I had to be inside a bubble.

Adrian Van Delzel is a graphic designer and illustrator from Barcelona, Spain. His work is most vector illustrations with an incredible amount of details and elements. Some characters are simply amazing, especially the Monster ones.

Most things are based on vectors in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop is a faithful friend, but not the center of it all.
I always try to find some sort of equilibrium, which counteract my "artistic imbalance" that is present on everything I do...

I have been researching for a personal project I am working on in characted design. While I was surfing on Behance I stumbled on the Johnathan Ball's profile, a digital artists from Newport, UK. I was really impressed by the quality of Jonathan's work. The 3D characters are very funny and well done. Also he has done work for big clients such as MTV, BBC, Sony, BBC and others.

Jonathan Ball is a freelance illustrator and designer from little old wales, which is tidily tucked away in a corner of the UK. He loves to draw and is eager for you to pay him for his efforts. This helps feed his family and a small flock of sheep.
